Lip Gloss Recipe #3: Honey Citrus!

Here's the lip gloss you've all been waiting for......
JK! Ok so here is yet another delicious tasting, nourishing lip gloss for you to try out @ home :)

Preparation of lip gloss recipes require the same equipment used for preparation of lip balm recipes : double boiler, saucepan or a microwave safe container. You will also need a small jar or container that you can store it in.

Honey Citrus Lip Gloss
Courtesy of www.spaindex.com

Ingredients:
7-8 tsp. sweet almond oil
2 tsp. beeswax
1 Vitamin E capsule
1 tsp. honey
5 drops citrus flavoring or essential oil (we like lime)
Microwave-safe container with lid
Cosmetic/balm container with lid

Preparation:
Melt the sweet almond oil and beeswax together in the microwave safe container for 1-2 minutes.

Remove the mixture from the microwave, and pierce the vitamin E capsule with a pin or tip fo a knife, and squirt into mixture.

Whisk the contents of the VitE capsure, honey, and flavoring, into the oil mixture, continuing to whisk until set.

Spoon your new lip gloss into a small, balm container with tight lid.

NoteThis lip gloss recipe is pretty much the most perfect recipe I have seen lately. It contains almond oil and Vitamin E. Why is this significant?

Almond oil is an emolient, like glycerin. It locks in the moisture and keeps it there, leaving the lips soft and hydrated.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps the skin heal and remain healthy. These two are a great combination. Your lips will be protected from free radicals and nourished at the same time.

Natural Hair Recipes!

I thought this was really interesting when I saw it! I have different hair than everyone else, it's blonde, dry, wavy (Hawaiian Native hair [I'm not Hawaiian ;)]).... And so this could really help! It has recipes for ALL hair types!!! Here they are:

Natural hair care is what you need to turn to if your hair has been excessively dyes, bleached, or damaged in any way. Before you start making some of these natural hair care products, consider these hair care tips:

Make sure you are using the right shampoo. Always get a shampoo that is suited for your hair type. A shampoo for dry hair might smell better, but it doesn't mean that it will fit your hair's needs.

Change the shampoo often. Hair gets immune to a certain shampoo if the shampoo has been used for too long. Try a new one, see if you notice any changes.
Apply the hair packs and balms once or twice a week. The more nourishment you provide, the more heathy the hair will be.
Avoid using a hair dryer. It makes the hair brittle and dries the scalp out which may lead to dendruff.

Trim your hair regularly. Remove the damaged ends.

Combined with homemade hair conditioners that are prepared within minutes, the effects that you will get will be multiplied.
Nourishing hair conditioner is specifically used for dry hair and dry scalp. It has oils that don't leave a greasy residue, but still provide enough moisture for hair to shine and look healthy.

You could always choose to buy a shampoo, but there are homemade recipes that are cheaper to make and all natural. Oily hair shampoo and conditioner target the excess oil that causes the hair to become oily. On the other side, there are dry hair shampoo recipes which restore the moisture and prevent dry, flaky skin of the scalp.

Banana hair pack
Ingredients:
1/2 banana1 tablespoon of lemon juice

1 tablespoon of honey

Mash until creamy. Hair has to be dry to do this. Leave it on your hair and wash out after 20 minutes. After that, use a shampoo.

Milk based Hair Balm
It is simple as this: after you wash your hair, wash it with some milk and leave on for about 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. It helps bring back the softness and natural shine.

Sour Cream Hair Pack
Ingredients:
2 teaspoons of sour-cream

1/2 teaspoon of wheat germ oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Mix it all together, apply to hair and rinse off after 10-15 minutes.

Olive oil for shiny hair
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon of olive oil1 egg

Mix the two and apply on hair. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and wash off using warm water, then shampoo.

Egg white for oily hair
1 egg white (more if your hair is thick or long).

Beat the egg and simply apply on dry hair. Leave it on until it is dry and crusty. Wash off with warm water and shampoo. Doing this a couple of times a week will help reduce the oiliness and remove the excess oil.

Hair pack for damaged hair
Ingredients
Juice from freshly squeezed lemon

2 egg yolks
1 egg white
1 tablespoon of honey.
Mix all the ingredients, apply on hair and let it rest for 10 minutes. After that, shampoo and rinse off.

For soft and silky hair
Ingredients
3 tablespoons of olive oil

2 tablespoons of honey

Mix it all well, apply on hair. Wrap the hair with a towel or shower cap and let it rest for 15 minutes. Shampoo and rinse the hair.

Increase hair volume
Ingredients
1 tablespoon of vinegar

1 tablespoon of honey
1/2 cup of warm waterSpray bottle - pharmacy stores usually sell them for a couple of dollars, get a smaller one.

Mix the ingredients in a bottle and shake well
After you wash the hair with shampoo, let it dry a bit.
When it is damp, spray the mix you have prepared.
Massage the scalp so the liquid gets absorbed better
Don't rinse the hair off, simply let it dry

For shiny and soft hair
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon of coconut oil3 tablespoons of sour cream
Mix the ingredients and apply them on hair.
Wrap a towel around it and let it rest for 30 minutes
Shampoo and rinse off well

Grease control
There is a simple way to get rid of greasy hair. Every time you shampoo your hair, mix a little bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice in. Shake the bottle well (you could use a smaller bottle for this purpose) and shampoo the hair. Rinse off well.
This way, you will control the oiliness of the scalp and also, if you have blondish hair, you will actually help keep it light longer. All of these hair packs and balms are really simple. The first homemade, natural hair care product I tried was the egg white one. My hair was very greasy during puberty and that one seemed to help. My hair seems thicker and fuller, less greesy.

Project Runway Season 5: Latest Episode!

I was requested to put the latest info on the show Project Runway 5 (requested by: Summer Lovin x [on Yahoo! Answers]), & I thought, "What a great idea! Putting info about a show on fashion, on a fashion blog!" I also wondered why I hadn't thought of it myself -.- ...... But here is the article from People:

Wednesday’s Project Runway was fierce enough to do season 4 champ Christian Siriano proud. And we’re not talking about the fashion. Attitudes were flying — and everybody was catching it.

This was partly because contestants worked in teams for the first time this season, which meant clashes were inevitable. It’s also because — with four designers eliminated already — the competition is truly heating up and people are showing their true colors. And not just with fabric from Mood. Asked to design for a high-powered, fashionable female client — namely Brooke Shields (not Hillary Clinton, sorry Blayne!) — the designers pitched their look to the Lipstick Jungle star who then selected her favorites. The winners — Korto, Jerell, Kelli, Terri, Blayne and Keith — then picked team members from the remaining contestants and got to work producing garments and drama.

But before reveling in the sass, let’s reflect on the night’s most tender moment: How sweet was Jerell for making Stella feel so valuable even though she was picked last? He knew her love of leather would be an asset, and the team ended up crafting one of the night’s strongest looks.

Now the drama:

• Terri and Suede seemed like the perfect match until they realized their working techniques radically differ. When Suede fretted over creating the shirt, Terri put him in his place. “I don’t know if he’s packing balls or a vajayjay, but he needs to work that out,” she told the camera. (He did, and the two were safe!)

• Korto had immunity but her partner, Joe, was concerned about their dress and jacket combo. Did he say something? Not until Tim Gunn came around said the outfit resembled a big sweet potato. Korto didn’t take offense; she just called Joe out for not speaking up.

• On the runway, Kelli and Daniel were clearly the judges’ least favorite for their feral-looking skirt, jacket and bustier mash-up that unfortunately combined black and teal fabrics, leopard print and lace. Digest that for a minute. While Daniel waxed on and on about his “high-end taste,” his workroom BFF Kenley actually burst into laughter on the runway. Michael Kors called the outfit “slutty, slutty, slutty!” And Nina Garcia, true to form, could barely hide her contempt for the overall lack of taste.

Kelli, as team leader, was sent home, upset but unapologetic about her vision. Keith and Kenley won the challenge, impressing guest judge Brooke Shields with their ruffled brown skirt and a colorful print top. The look earned them the ultimate prize: Her character, Wendy Healy, will wear it on an episode of Lipstick Jungle.

How to Make a Hair Bow in a few simple steps....

I found this really cute "How To" article about how to make hair bows! I really like bows, they give your hair a cute look :) I make my own bows and it's really easy, you don't even need to buy any! Anyways.... Here is the article:

"Wearing a hair bow is a simple means of creating beauty to one's own style of dressing their hair to make it look more pleasing to look at. There are varieties of ways on how to make a hair bow. The variation usually lies on the materials to be used that also depend on the choice of style of the hair bow one prefers to make.

How to make a hair bow is a common hobby among creative and artistic individuals. Basically one is free to create their own design to represent their own stylish way of making a hair bow. There are simple steps on how to make a hair bow. One needs to organize first the materials they will need.

Scissors, measuring tape or a ruler, ribbon, floral wire, metal clip, glue gun and fray check are the most basic materials to be needed on how to make a hair bow. For beginners, making a medium sized pinwheel bow is an excellent choice to begin with.
When deciding on the type of ribbon to use it is important to choose one that has a soft fabric that is easy to bend. One should then choose the type of clip to use. When making a small to medium hair bow for fine hair, alligator clips are good choice. French clips on the other hand work well for fuller hairs or for ponytails and when making larger bows.

Cut the ribbon ¾ - 1 1/2 inches in width and 24 inches in length. To assemble, the ribbon must be folded over 5 times of about 4 ½ in. in length. To even the length, adjust the ribbon. Then pinch the center of the loops and use a craft wire or wrap floral to tighten the center of the bow.
Using the floral wire for this purpose can be a good choice as it does not melt when glued. Don't forget to trim the excess wire to ensure it will not poke out. Also trimming the ends of the bow will make both sides even. You can choose to kite tail or angle the edges for better touches.

You can trace a line and cut to create an angle on the bow's edges. To create kite tail, you need to first fold the center of the edges and clip a shape of a triangle on the edge. It is best to first practice in a piece of paper before making the final cut on the bow.

To prevent from fraying, apply thin coat of nail polish or fray check on the bow's edges. Slide the clip along the bow's wire and use the glue to secure its place. Some uses additional wires to further secure the bow to the clip.

A smaller piece of ribbon is then knotted on the center on top of the exposed wire and wrapped around then glued to stay in place. For the final touches, adjust the hair bow to its fullness.
Learning how to make a hair bow can be fun, interesting and fulfilling especially when you wear a hair bow that is your own masterpiece."

Lip Balm Recipe #1: Apple Lip Balm

I'll be posting new recipes every day, (DUH! DIY'ed Recipe of the Day...) Today is a really cool Apple Lip Balm recipe! It can really help your lips to not get chapped, & keep them nice, moist, & healthy. And you can get that, all in your own house!!!

Apple lip balm

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons of beeswax
5 teaspoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of glycerin
3 tablespoons of apple juice

Directions:
Melt the beeswax and slowly add the rest of the ingredients.
While still warm, pour the mass into a container and leave to solidify
This particular lip balm will stay fresh for a few days. Use it often during the day
When I mention glycerin (glicerol or glycerine), I have to point something out.

Glycerin is a strong emolient, meaning it softens the skin. Its molecules capture or draw the moisture out of the air and keep it locked. This is perfect in lip balm recipes, as this is the purpose of any lip balm: to keep the lips moisturized and soft.

However, the same way it draws the moisture out of the air, it does the same to the lips if it is used undiluted. The ones you can buy online and in stores are usually already diluted. If not, make sure there is a minimum of 3 parts water added to 1 part glycerin. When placed on skin, pure, concentrated glycerin can create blisters.

Make-your-own-Body-Wax! ;)

Here's a cool recipe for Body Wax, I got it off a really cool site :)

Honey based body wax
The name body wax is right, this recipe can be used as a leg and eyebrow wax, upper lip wax. You could also use it on your arms.
Ingredients:
7oz of honey
7oz of sugar
Freshly sqeezed juice of 1/2 lemon
You will also need:
a pan and tablespoon, preferably wooden spoon andcloth strips which you can make out of an old shirt (cotton) or simply buy them at the pharmacy store.
Preparation:
Start out by caramelazing sugar. Set the temperature on medium high.
Stir sugar until it starts bubbling.
The color you are looking for is gold, that will indicate the sugar is ready and melted.
Proceede by adding honey and lemon juice, stirring the whole time.
When the mix is melted, drop the mass on a clean cotton towel.
Knead the mass until it becomes golden yellow.
This is where it becomes tricky. This body wax mix tends to harden quicky and you need to do something to keep it solf so you can mold it and apply on the skin. Unless you don't mind, you could use some saliva. It has enzymes that will break the honey and sugar and keep it moist and soft. Another option, is to prepare a small bowl and fill it up with hot water. Don't use it too hot, you might burn yourself, only hot enough so that you can use it. Then....
Spread the mix on your legs, place the cotton strip over it (make sure it adheres), count to 3 and pull!
Always pull in the opposite direction of hair growth. This way, you will pull out the hair together with its root, which is the point of waxing.
Use short strokes until you get used to doing it, then you can start using long strokes.
To wash off the stickiness, simply rinse your legs with warm water.
Some women get so good in doing this, that they actually make strips out of this mass and have no need to use the cotton strips. For beginners, follow the above instructions.
If you prefer to make the mix so it is more liquid and that you can spread using a wooden stick, add more water while it is still melting. Make sure that the consistency is not too thick nor too liquid, it should be similar to pancake batter :)
As I mentioned, it might take you some time to get a hold of it, and it might happen that the mix hardens while you are still waxing. No problem! Either dip your fingers in hot water you already prepared and mold it until it softens, or return it to the stove and cook until it melts again.

Another Teen Vogue Moment: Job Interview Attire

A true fashionista's dilemma: How do you preserve your unique sense of style while donning office-approved attire? Don't reach for that matching suit combo just yet—a job interview is as much about conveying your personality as it is about putting your professionalism on the table. Mixing work-ready pieces, like a fitted blazer or a classic cardigan, with more playful elements—try your favorite scarf or belt—lend a youthful edge to grown-up power dressing. While there are some basic rules of thumb to take into consideration when putting together your interview outfit—nothing too short, nothing too tight, and nothing too revealing—anything goes for how you style it. Take a cue from Karen Walker's Fall 2008 runway, in which the Kiwi designer mixed shrunken heather-gray tuxedo jackets with electric-hued silks and whimsical accessories. But ultimately, your clothing is only a small piece of the job-winning puzzle: confidence and an upbeat attitude are what really win over potential employers.

Celeb Style of the Week: Selena Gomez!

Many people are really interested on how to look like Selena Gomez, the new star on WOWP Disney Channel (Wizards of Waverly Place). Sooo, I found some steps you can take to look like her! Convenient huh?

Here are the steps :

1. Layer tanks over tanks, t shirts, or long sleeved shirts. Or wear printed tees over solid tanks or alone.
2. Wear skinny jeans with converse. They can be just normal black ones or bright colors, mix it up!
If too many layers make you feel too warm, pull up the bottom long sleeved layer to make it scruch up. Selena Gomez does that a lot.
3. For makeup start off by applying foundation. Then put on golden brown eye-shadow and then use eyeliner and mascara.
4. Selena usually has bold cheeks so, dust a bold (but not too bold) pink blush on your cheekbones.
5. Put on some clear, salmon-pink, red or nude lip gloss. CARMEX lip balm is best, Selena herself recommends it.
6. For a simple yet elegant hairdo, straighten your hair with a flat iron, even if you already have straight hair.
7. Use a curling iron to curl the bottom layers of your hair, and a smaller one for the top.
If you're in a hurry or just chilling with friends, tie your hair back in a ponytail.

What you'll need:

~Converse shoes
~Tank tops, long sleeved shirts, and T-shirts.
~Dark or faded jeans (preferably skinny or straight legged).
~A straightener or curling iron
~Foundation
~golden-brown eyeshadow
~light brown eyeliner
